Help and accessibility: Routes
Here are some tips on how to use the website’s route planner as effectively as possible. This tool is particularly interactive and at any time you can:
- change search criteria
- view alternative routes
- change your start and end points on the map and immediately get a new result
Start and end points
To enter your start and end points you can use the input fields or click directly on the interactive map.
Specify the date and time you want to travel.
If you are logged in to the website from My account, you can use your favourite places to choose your start or end points: in this case go to the My Favourites tab.
Entering and selecting locations
For a single entry, the website can suggest stops, addresses and points of interest (categorised locations).
Careful: note that if you select a stop, the route planner will only look for route solutions to/from this stop and connecting stops, i.e. generally within a 250-metre radius. We therefore recommend that you use addresses and points of interest instead to obtain the fastest route overall, even if it means changing options later according to your preferences (fewer changes, more or less walking, etc.).
Indicate your preferences
The "fastest" route is suggested by default. However, you can ask for a recalculation with "fewer changes", which in some cases can simplify the trip by making the total journey time only slightly longer.
Choice of transport type
Although the website mainly gives priority to public transport solutions, other means of transport are suggested in addition, by default, if circumstances allow:
- walking the whole journey
- on-demand transport: either for the whole journey or as a feeder service, in cases where there may be insufficient public transport.
- car sharing
Advanced options in Preferences
In order to choose your preferred options, you can adjust the settings in the "Preferences" tab as follows:
- for walking: indicate your preferences for speed and maximum distance on foot.
- for public transport: deselect certain means of public transport (e.g. if you only want to take the tram)
- for cycling:
- choose between the most direct route (default setting) or the most suitable for bicycles by choosing the option Prefer bike paths.
- select your preferences for maximum distance to be travelled, speed, as well as where to park the bike (secure parking or close to a bus stop).
- for cars: you can choose the maximum distance you would like to travel, as well as where you would like to park the vehicle (park-and-ride, or as close as possible to a bus stop).
View results
Each suggested journey is displayed as a button showing:
- the means of transport to be used
- journey duration, as well as departure and arrival times
- the number of changes
- the distance to be travelled on foot or by bike, as appropriate
You can expand the content by clicking on the suggested journey and see a travel planner, a map as well as various useful features (print, PDF download, add to calendar, share on social networks, etc.) which are under the Print, send by email … drop-down panel
